You are spring, whose flowers have opened

in beauty, its blooms joining its roses.

Its breezes smiled, and flirtation stirred

among its branches, while its birds sang.

Beauty has in you its wondrous artistry and eloquence,

And I have poetry, its pearls and pure gold.

I embroidered it to describe your face whenever

The heart was enraptured by it, and its banner fluttered.

Of our love, yours are its coolness and peace,

And its purity, fidelity, and dignity.

And ours is passion—its misery and sickness,

And its hell, its blaze, and its searing heat.

Do not ask the yearning lover how they took shape—

His verses—and how his rivers poured forth.

For love bestowed it for your eyes:

In them and in you, his poems vied with one another.

Do not kill with rejection a love that has so long

Sheltered lovers with its shade and fruits.

For union is our paradise and our love's refuge,

And our bliss; rejection's fire is enough for me.

Indeed, we divided love between us: its hell

Is in my heart, while its bliss makes its home with you.

Had your heart softened, my mind would not have blossomed

Into gems sung by its companions at night.

So take poems of beautiful love:

Time perishes, yet its traces still remain.
