Let history take dictation from the reed pen,
Let history take its toll
and bring the pages and loose sheets to light;
And clarify the pages and scrolls

and tell me the truest of what you learn
And tell me the most honest news
of tidings, whether seen or heard.
You saw or heard

Perhaps amid its lines lies a threat
Perhaps through its lines
with which we may outwit al-Nadir and Qaynuqa.
We can spite the enemy and make him stumble

Leave the farces for tragedies
pour upon our homelands one after another.
Pour on our homelands in succession

Yet no official’s eyes have shed tears,
No eyes wept for an official
and he has kept no pledges—how many he has squandered!
Who did not keep his word and lost many

And still, as ever, we give our allegiance
We still support justice
to those who reject justice, loving and following them.
Out of love and obedience

We reproach people for their baseness:
We blame their lowliness on people
they accepted humiliation out of helplessness and fright.
Who accepted humiliation out of inability and fear

What is the importance of jihad and people
whose enemy has bought and sold among them?
Whose enemy bought them and sold them

And raised them while young
and their rearer has the right to be obeyed.
And it's the right of the nurturer to be obeyed

So will anyone convey to al-Kubaysi, on my behalf,
So does the messenger tell Al-Kaabi
lines that nearly breathed out anguish,
Lines that with their hissing blew away vanity

And sighs that almost
melts in sorrow and is torn asunder?
Melt the heart with sorrow and split it with grief

You stirred my poetic gift and shook from it
It inspired my talent and shook off
the echo of days, so it became a ray of light.
The echo of days and turned into rays

That light up as they lit dark roads
with luminous thought that rejects deceit.
With sincere thought that rejects deception

He saw truth as his goal so life
his own life, willingly and in submission.
Became easy for him to voluntarily submit

So tell those who seek lofty attainments:
So say to those who seek glory
The road to glory is not a common whim.
The path of glory is not shared infatuation
