    The cold has afflicted every limb of mine,

    Even my tongue, leaving me unable to speak.

    لا أتسطيع بها قبضا على قلمي

    And my fingertips trembled from what I endure;

    I cannot grip my pen with them.

    I complain to you of the cold, O my refuge and O my hope.

    It has unjustly drawn its keen sword to shed my blood.

    ففي حمى ابن معز الدين فاعتصمي

    So I told my soul, after it had trembled, 'Be still;

    So take refuge in the sanctuary of Ibn Muʿizz al-Dīn.'

    Abū al-Muʿizz, before whom the mighty have bowed low,

    And his bounty has become a fire upon a mountaintop.

    فخد شانيك أضحى موضع القدم

    So live on for all time, be safe throughout it, and forbid and command;

    For your foe's cheek has become a place for the foot to tread.
