And those harboring rancor, openly displaying enmity
And those showing enmity through misty airs
That fills the hearts—sworn allies of falsehood—
Fill hearts, sworn to animosity
ناسَيتُهُمI feigned forgetting them بَغضاءَهُمtheir hatred وَتَرَكتُهُمand I left them
وَهُمthough they إِذاwhen ذُكِرَis mentioned الصَديقُthe friend أَعاديenemies
I feigned forgetting their hatred and left them be,
I forgot their hatred and left them
Though, when a friend is mentioned, they are foes,
And when a friend was mentioned they showed enmity
كَيماso that أَعَدَّهُمI might prepare them لِأَبعَدَagainst someone more distant مِنهُمthan them
وَلَقَدand indeed يُجاءُrecourse is had إِلىto ذَويthose possessing الأَحقادِthe grudges
So I might hold them in reserve against those more distant than they;
So I would prepare for the farthest from them
And indeed, one may turn to those who harbor grudges.
And indeed we come to those of resentments
