وَحَيَّ نُصَيبٍ وَالظُنونُ تُطاعُ
I warned the sons of Fihr the morning I met them,
I warned the tribe of Fihr one morning when I met them,
And the clan of Nusayb—and suspicions are heeded.
By Wahayb's well, though guesses must be heeded.
فَقُلتُso I said لَهُمto them إِنَّindeed الجَريبَal-Jarib وَراكِساًand Rakis
فَقُلتُ لَهُم إِنَّ الجَريبَ وَراكِساً

بِها نَعَمٌ يَرعى المرارَ رَتاعُ
So I told them: “Indeed, al-Jarib and Rakis
I said to them: 'The meadow there has harmful serpents.
Have livestock there, grazing freely on bitter herbage;
Though it has some rich grass where cattle graze,
وَلكِنand yet فيهِin it السُمّpoison إِنif رَيعُare alarmed أَهلُهُits people
وَلكِن فيهِ السُمّ إِن رَيعُ أَهلُهُ
وَإِنand if يَأتِهِcomes to it قَومٌa group of people هُناكَthere يُراعُis alarmed
وَإِن يَأتِهِ قَومٌ هُناكَ يُراعُ
But there is poison in it if its people are alarmed,
It harbors poison if its people pasture there,
And if a group comes to it, they will be alarmed there.”
Or others come and on its greenery feed.'
