Sol 6.1

  1. عجباً ! كيف اتخذناكَ صديقاً ؟

    وحَسبناك أخاً بَراً شقيقا ؟

    How strange! How did we take you for a friend?

    And think you a loving, true brother?

  2. وأخذناك إلى أضلاعنا

    وسَقيناك مِن الحُبِّ رحِيقا

    And draw you to our ribs,

    And give you nectar of love to drink,

  3. واقتسمنا كِسْرةَ الخُبز معاً

    وكتبنا بالدِّما عهداً وثيقا

    And share a piece of bread together,

    And write a binding covenant in blood,

  4. وزرعناكَ على أجفانِنا

    ونشرنا فوقكَ الهُدْبَ الورِيقا

    And plant you upon our eyelids,

    And spread leafy lashes over you?

  5. وزَعَمْنَاك ولم تَبْرقْ سناً

    وكسوناك ولم تلمع برِيقا

    And deem you radiance, though you never flashed,

    And clothe you in brilliance, though you never shone?

  6. سَيفنا كنت تأملْ سيفنا

    كيف أهدى قلبنا الجُرح العميقا

    You were our sword—look closely at our sword:

    How it bestowed a deep wound upon our heart.

  7. دِرعنا كنت وهذا دِرعنا

    حَربة في ظهرنا شبت حريقا

    You were our shield—and here is our shield:

    A spear in our back that burst into flame.

  8. جيشنا كنتَ أجبْ يا جيشنا

    كيفَ ضَيَّعْتَ إلى القدس الطريقا ؟!

    You were our army—answer, O our army:

    How did you lose the way to Jerusalem?!

  9. ذلك العملاق ما أبشعه

    في الدُّجى .. يغتال عُصفوراً رقيقا

    That giant—how hideous he is!

    In the darkness, he assassinates a delicate sparrow.

  10. مُسِخَ الفارسُ لصاً قاتلاً

    مُسِخَ الفارسُ كَذَّاباً صَفِيقا

    The knight was transformed into a murderous thief.

    The knight was transformed into a brazen liar.

  11. رحمةُ الله عليهِ إنهُ

    مات .. هلْ عاشَ الذي خانَ الرَّفيقا ؟!

    God's mercy be upon him: indeed, he

    Has died... Did he who betrayed his companion ever live?!
