Shroud me in roses and jasmine,

And sit beside my head in stillness.

    بل دعوني أنام ملءَ جفوني

    Do not raise a wailing clamor over the bed;

Rather, let me sleep my eyelids' fill.

The blasts of frost chill my breast,

And autumn's panting moistens my brow.

I am in a slumber with which I began my

life; by the truth of existence, do not wake me.

And mourn me in silence—the most heartrending lament:

An anguish that rasped in a sorrowful heart,

Burned its melody and set its echo ablaze,

    And became braziers of longing.

Thus I used to feed love my very self,

And sing of languor, and conceal my moaning.

The stillness of death is a delight to my imagination,

And a release for my youthful longing and my fancies.

In death a wayward life is revealed:

It is the secret of immortality after death,

The fragrance of light behind the eyelid of the brilliant stars,

And the echo of God in the call of the years.

My wedding roses—place them upon my bed,

And cover me with the blossoms of the dewy field.

Indeed, the verse I sang in my youth

Is for love, for fragrance, for enchantment.

O my companions, and O beloved ones of my life,

Build the grave in the shade of the boughs.

    فاجعلوه قبرَ الغرام الدفين

    That vineyard was the pasture of my delight;

So make it the grave of buried passion.

Do not fear: I am there upon the

hill, alone, with love filling my eyelids.

I sing with the birds and flow

as fragrance with the tender breeze.

So remember me when you hear the songbirds

Sing to their Lord, and hear me.
