وأسعدand I delight بالجمالin beauty وبالحنانِand in tenderness
I love people, far and near.
I love people with affection and sympathy
And I delight in beauty and tenderness.
And find joy in beauty and tenderness
وأبدوand I appear بالبشاشةwith cheerfulness لاnot أُرائيI pretend
بوجهٍwith a face ظلremained محدوّurged onward الأمانيhopes
And I appear cheerful, without pretense,
I show cheerfulness, not pretending
With a face ever spurred on by hopes.
With a face whose hopes remained unfulfilled

وآخرand another أنّgroaned أنيابfangs الزمانtime
So here I glimpse a happy person,
So I notice here a happy person
And another groaning beneath the fangs of time.
And another whose fangs time has worn down
فأفرحso I rejoice للسعادةat happiness حيثwherever كانتit was
وأحزنand I grieve كلall أحزانsorrows المهانِthe humiliated one
So I rejoice in happiness wherever it is,
I rejoice wherever happiness was found
And I feel every sorrow of the humiliated.
And grieve for every humiliation suffered

مواساةٌconsolation وإخلاصand sincerity التفانيselfless devotion
As though I alone were looked to for
It's as if I alone am expected
Consolation and wholehearted devotion.
To give solace and selfless devotion
أحبI love الناسpeople منfrom قلبيmy heart وربيby my Lord
لذاtherefore فالحقدso hatred مجهولunknown المكانthe place
I love people from my heart—by my Lord!
I love people from my heart and my Lord
Thus hatred's whereabouts are unknown.
So malice is absent from my abode
فإنfor if كانتwas حياتيmy life فيin صراعٍstruggle
فإنيthen I قدindeed وجدتI found بهاin it المعانيmeanings
For if my life has been a struggle,
And if my life is filled with struggle
Then I have found meanings in it.
I've found meaning throughout the years
وإنand if كانتit was تعانيit suffers أوتعانيor it suffers
فليسthen it does not يفتُّweaken فيin عضديmy arm زمانيmy time
And if it suffers—or suffers—
Be it suffering or consoling pain
Then the times I live in do not sap my strength.
Time will not slacken its grip on me

وأبقىand I remain فيin سجالcontest العنفوانyouthful vigor
My path is to walk without slackening,
My way is to march on unfazed
And remain in the contest of youthful vigor.
And remain in the fray with fervor

So, thirsty one, take the melody undiluted,
Oh thirsty one, here is the melody made
A smooth drink, filling the wine jars.
A smooth draught that filled the cups
