كسّرتهاI shattered it قارورةvial الأوجاعthe pains
أهرقتI poured out منهاfrom it السمّthe poison ملءfilling القاعِthe bottom
I shattered it—the bottle of sorrows—
I shattered it—the vial of anguish.
and poured from it poison enough to fill the depths.
I poured the poison from it, filling the bottom.
أيقظتI awakened قلبيmy heart منfrom سباتslumber سرابهits mirage
فغداso it became سريّاًa stream فاضَit overflowed ليfor me بشعاعِwith a ray of light
I awakened my heart from the slumber of its mirage;
I awakened my heart from the slumber of its mirage.
then it grew noble, overflowing for me with a ray of light.
So it became a stream, overflowing for me with a ray of light.
ومشاعريand my feelings أحييتهاI revived them بمشاعريwith my feelings
صدّاحةfull-throated in song تختالُstrutting proudly فيwithin أضلاعيmy ribs
My feelings—I revived them through my own sensibility:
And my feelings—I revived them with my feelings,
a songstress strutting proudly within my ribs.
Full-throated in song, strutting among my ribs.
ونفضتُand I shook off عنهاfrom them طيشهاtheir recklessness وعثارهاand their missteps
طهّرتهاI cleansed them منof وسمthe brand قهرoppression ( خداعِdeceit )
I shook off her recklessness and her stumbles,
And I shook from them their recklessness and their missteps.
and cleansed her of subjugation’s brand—my own self-deceit;
I cleansed them of the brand of oppression (deceit).
وسقيتهاand I watered them طُهريmy purity ونبلand the nobility سرائريmy innermost thoughts
شعشاعةradiant بخمائليamid my groves وطباعيand my nature
I gave her my purity to drink, and the nobility of my inmost thoughts—
And I watered them with my purity and the nobility of my innermost thoughts,
radiant amid my leafy bowers and throughout my nature.
Radiant amid my groves and in my nature.
