أُحَاولُI try تَفْسِيرِيto explain myself فَلاbut I do not أَتَفَسَّرُbecome explained
فَأَكسِرُso I break ذَاتِيmy self علَّنِيperhaps I أَتَحَرَّرُmay be free
I try to explain myself, but I remain unexplained.
So I break my self, hoping I might be free.
وَأُهرُبُand I flee مِنيfrom myself، دونwithout أدنىthe slightest التفاتةٍglance back
إِليَّtoward myself، وإذand behold بيI am فَجأةًsuddenly أتَعَثَّرُI stumble
And I flee from myself, without the slightest glance
back at myself, when suddenly I stumble.
وأُصغِيand I listen إلىto الأرواحِthe spirits فيin خَلَوَاتِهاtheir seclusion
فأسمعُand I hear صوتَthe voice of الميِّتينَthe dead يُزَمجِرُroar
I listen to the spirits in their seclusion
and hear the voice of the dead roar.
يقولونَthey tell ليme إنَّthat المَنَاياdeaths خَطِيرةٌare dangerous
وتاللهِand by God إنَّindeed العيشَliving أَدهَىis more treacherous وأَخطرُand more dangerous
They tell me that death is dangerous;
by God, living is more treacherous and more dangerous.
فمنso whoever عاشَhas lived عاشَhas lived الكمَّquantity والكيفَand quality فتنةًas a trial
ومهماand however much تغذَّىone feeds مِنهُمَاon both of them يَتَضَوَّرُone still hungers...
Whoever lives finds both quantity and quality a trial;
however much one feeds on them, one still hungers.
فلاso there is no صبرَpatience فيin الدنياthe world ولكنbut عقيدتيmy faith
إلىuntil أنthat يَشَاءَwills اللهُGod مَوتِيmy death سَتَصبرُwill endure
There is no patience in this world, but my faith
will endure until God wills my death.
