يا آلَ بَسّامِ في المَخازي

يا آلَ بَسّامِ في المَخازي

وَعابِسي الوَجهَ في السُؤالِ

وَعابِسي الوَجهَ في السُؤالِ

O house of Bassam, steeped in disgrace,

Oh companions with smiling faces in prosperity

And grim-faced when petitioned:

And frowning faces when asked for help

حَواجِبٌ كَالحِبالِ سودٌ

حَواجِبٌ كَالحِبالِ سودٌ

إِلى عَثانينَ كَالمَخالي

إِلى عَثانينَ كَالمَخالي

Black eyebrows like ropes,

With eyebrows black like ropes

Along with beards like feedbags,

Reaching up to sideburns like tents

وَأَوجُهٌ جَهمَةٌ غِلاظٌ

وَأَوجُهٌ جَهمَةٌ غِلاظٌ

عُطلٌ مِنَ الحُسنِ وَالجَمالِ

عُطلٌ مِنَ الحُسنِ وَالجَمالِ

And faces grim and coarse,

And grim, coarse faces

Bereft of loveliness and beauty.

Devoid of beauty and grace
