    Whenever the winds of Abu Aqil blew,

    we called upon al-Walid as they blew—

    high-bridged of nose, proud in bearing, of the Abd Shams clan—

    who aided Labid in his noble generosity,

    with camels like hills, as though a band of riders

    from the sons of Ham sat upon them.

    O Abu Wahb, may God reward you with good:

    we slaughtered them and served tharid.

    وَظنّي يا اِبن أَروى أَن نَعودا

    So give again, for a generous man returns to giving;

    and I expect, O son of Arwa, that we shall return.
