Youth and beauty lie in your hands.

What crown is more precious than your two crowns!

Love erected his throne, and we asked:

Who might it be for? He pointed to you.

So pour your tender soul upon him,

As the sky pours into your eyes.

    Whenever youth vies in beauty

Of wondrous radiance, it ascribes that beauty to you.

The nightingale sings only to cast

The sighs of passion into your ears.

The garden grew drunk, its drunkenness laying it low,

Where fragrance flowed from your breasts.

The rose killed itself out of envy of you,

And cast its blood into your cheeks.

And the butterflies grew weary of flowers when

The breezes told them of your lips.

What are perfume and silk? And yet,

A thing's honor lies in being with you.

They held you up as an ideal of beauty,

And bowed humbly at your feet.
