وَقَدand indeed رَكِبتُمyou have entered upon صَمّاءَan unyielding ordeal مُعضِلَةًintractable
وَقَد رَكِبتُم صَمّاءَ مُعضِلَةً
تَفريrends البَراطيلَthe oblong rocks تَفلِقُcleaves الحَجَراthe stone
تَفري البَراطيلَ تَفلِقُ الحَجَرا
And you have indeed entered upon an unyielding, intractable ordeal,
You have ridden stubbornly an intractable beast
That rends oblong rocks and cleaves stone.
