Love is known only through its poems,

None knows love but from its poems

And wine is known through the cups of its cupbearer.

أنا (حوادم) في سري أخاطبني

وأنت آدم قد تاهت مراميه

I am Hawadim; in my secrecy I address myself.

I am the one who talks to myself in my secret

And you are Adam, whose aims have already gone astray.

While you are Adam who lost his goals

إذا أردت سبيلي تهت في قلقي

إذا أردت سبيلي تهت في قلقي

فلا سبيل إلى نجواي أبقيه

فلا سبيل إلى نجواي أبقيه

If you seek my path, you become lost in my unrest.

If you want my way you will wander in my anxiety

So I leave no path to my secret whispers.

So there is no way to my salvation, I keep it

أنا تغشيت روحي في مسافتها

وأنت أنت كمن يمضي إلى تيه

I have enveloped my soul within its expanse.

I veiled my soul in its distance

And you—you are like one who goes on into bewilderment.

While you, you are like one walking to confusion
