صمتيmy silence يحيُّرنيbewilders me والصمتُand silence مأساتيmy tragedy
والحزنُand grief منfrom فرطِهِits excess قدindeed حلَّsettled فيin ذاتيmy inner self
My silence bewilders me, and silence is my tragedy.
My silence bewilders me, and silence is my tragedy,
And grief, in its excess, has settled within me.
And sadness, from its excess, has settled into my being.
أمضيI go on وقدand already جمَحتْran wild فيon الدربِthe path أحصنتيmy horses
والليلand the night يُطْفِئُنيextinguishes me فيin قلبthe heart مشكاتيmy lamp-niche
I go on, and my horses have run wild along the path.
I walk on while my fortresses have collapsed on the road,
And night extinguishes me in the heart of my lamp-niche.
And the night extinguishes me in the heart of my problems.
لاnot الحلمُthe dream يعرفنيknows me إنif أقفرتْbecame desolate سبُليmy paths
أوor غادرتنيabandoned me الرؤىthe visions فيin كلall أوقاتيmy hours
The dream does not know me if my paths grow desolate,
Neither does the dream know me if my roads are desolate,
or visions abandon me through all my hours.
Nor do visions abandon me at any time.
السرُّthe secret ينكرنيdisowns me فيin غابةٍa forest شربتْdrank
صوتيmy voice فأُغرقso I am drowned فيin نسيانهاits oblivion الآتيyet to come
The secret disowns me in a forest that has drunk
The secret denies me in a forest that has drunk
my voice, and so I am drowned in its coming oblivion.
My voice, so I drown in the oblivion that is coming.
تاهتْlost their way حروفletters الهوىlove منbecause of وجدهاtheir yearning وسرتْand coursed
بالنفسthrough the soul أسرابflocks شكوىlament منfrom حكاياتيmy tales
Love's letters lost their way in their yearning, and there coursed
The letters of love are lost to whoever found them and departed
through the soul flocks of lament from my tales.
With a self, swarms of complaints from my tales.
تمتدُspread فيthrough نُسجيmy weavings الأشواقُthe longings عارمةًunbridled
والرملُand the sand يغرقُdrowns أبوابيmy doors وساحاتيand my courtyards
Longings spread through my weavings, unbridled,
Yearnings surge wildly through my fabric,
and the sand drowns my doors and my courtyards.
And the sand drowns my doors and my courtyards.
أستافُI smell جمرَembers الهوىlove فيin بردthe chill أضرحتيmy tombs
والخادعانand the two deceivers هماthey both : طينيmy clay ومرآتيand my mirror
I smell love's embers in the chill of my tombs,
I kindle the embers of love in the cold of my tomb,
and the two deceivers are my clay and my mirror.
While the two deceivers are: my clay and my mirror.
أرتدI recoil منfrom صرختيmy scream والريحand the wind تحملنيcarries me
أمضيI go on إلىtoward الوهمillusion تحدونيurge me onward ضلالاتيmy errors
I recoil from my scream, and the wind carries me.
I recoil from my own scream, and the wind carries me
I go on toward illusion, my errors urging me onward.
On towards illusion, led by my misguidances.
ناديتُI called out كيفhow أرىI see والعتمand darkness نافذتيmy window
واستوحشتْand grew fearful أنجميmy stars منof عتمthe darkness آهاتيmy sighs!
I called out: How can I see when darkness is my window?
I called out: how can I see when gloom is my window?
And my stars grew fearful of the darkness of my sighs!
My stars have grown estranged by the gloom of my sighs!
