وَرَدناwe came الكُلابَal-Kulāb عَلىagainst قَومِناour kinsmen
وَرَدنا الكُلابَ عَلى قَومِنا
بِأَحسَنِwith the finest وِردٍadvance لهيجاfor battle شِعاراas a rallying cry
بِأَحسَنِ وِردٍ لهيجا شِعارا
We came to al-Kulāb against our kinsmen,
We returned to our people with the best return,
with the finest advance, “To battle!” as our rallying cry.
Raising our banners high.
وَقَدand already جَمَعواthey mustered جَمعَهُمtheir host كُلَّهُall of it
وَقَد جَمَعوا جَمعَهُم كُلَّهُ
وَجَمعand the host الرِبابِof al-Ribāb لَناfor us مُستَعاراborrowed
وَجَمع الرِبابِ لَنا مُستَعارا
And they had mustered their entire host,
They gathered all their forces against us,
and al-Ribāb’s host, borrowed to face us.
While we gathered an army on loan for the battle.
