O sons of Abu Saʿd, you who are brothers—

and reproach after today is a grievous matter.

Why did you not, with your goodness, restrain your evil

from me, when I had violated nothing sacred to you?

Why did you not fear that I might encounter its like

among you, leaving you like one who knows nothing?

They filled a well at al-Aqtanatayn

with people of ours, and returned unharmed, and were granted spoils.

    تِلكَ المُعَطُِّ مِن أسِرَّتِها الدَمُ

    They killed to inflict suffering, on suspicion of a single man;

that is the rending calamity, blood flowing from its furrows.

So my hand is pledged to you for a ruinous day

and for a battle with annihilating retribution.
