نِيرانُfires هَجْريmy estrangement لَيْسَnot تَخْمَدْdie out
وَسُيُوفُand the swords عَيْنِكَyour eye لَيْسَnot تُغْمَدْare sheathed
The fires of my estrangement do not die out.
The fires of your abandonment do not die down
And the swords of your eye are not sheathed.
And the swords of your eyes do not go back in their sheaths
وَالنَّفْسُand the soul فيماamid what ساءَهاhas distressed it
طَلَباًin pursuit لَماof what يُرْضِيكَpleases you تَجْهَدْstrives
And the soul, amid what has distressed it,
My soul strives for what pleases you
strives in pursuit of what pleases you.
In spite of what distresses it
وَالْجُودُand generosity مِنْكَfrom you مَباعَدٌkept far away

And generosity from you is kept far away,
Your generosity is distant
while stinginess is near and does not recede.
Your stinginess is near, it does not go far

Who will be my bearer of glad tidings
Who will give me good news
of your kindness toward me, Ahmad?
Of your kindness towards me, I long for it
