    Can calamities avail amid injustice,

so that the sins they have committed may be forgiven?

I marveled at time's turns, with unalloyed

afflictions, and at my tainted life.

As though time pursues me for vengeance,

so my share from it is the unleashing of calamities.

And some of what I endure has been eased by my being

pure of bosom, free from the stain of faults.

If I am not granted sound judgment,

then what do I know of what the unseen conceals?

And many a calamity, rising like dust from time's turns,

has been dispelled by victory from a Lord held in awe.
