Drink an evening draught, for the west has lit up,

and the ruler of darkness has come with an army.

    The summer day withdrew, cloaked

in freshness, and darkness came rejoicing.

So seize life's pleasures when the chance arises,

for the time of joy seems all too short.

Say, you two, to Maktum: “Grant me a kindness

from you; whatever you bestow will not go unacknowledged.”

What reproacher, seeing you like a bough,

so supple, walking with wine, would not excuse me?
