My heart throbbed, and I remembered my homeland—

my homeland of fields and dense woods,

And my homeland is the fields and the thickets,

وبلادي الأنهارُ تهتفُ فرحى

وبلادي الأنهارُ تهتفُ فرحى

والنَّدى السمحُ والسُّلاف الحلال

والنَّدى السمحُ والسُّلاف الحلال

my homeland whose rivers cry out for joy,

And my homeland is the rivers crying out in joy,

of generous dew and choice, lawful wine.

And the generous dew, and the pure, lawful wine.

والرّياضُ اللطافُ تعبقُ بالعطـ

والرّياضُ اللطافُ تعبقُ بالعطـ

ـرِ حلتْها الأفياءُ والأظلال

ـرِ حلتْها الأفياءُ والأظلال

The lovely gardens breathe fragrance—

And the lovely gardens exude fragrance;

adorned by spreading shade and shadow.

Shades and shadows have adorned them.

والينابيعُ حفُّلٌ بالأناشيـ

والينابيعُ حفُّلٌ بالأناشيـ

ـد تراخى فيها السَّنا والبِلال

ـد تراخى فيها السَّنا والبِلال

The springs teem with dense, layered growth,

And the springs are brimming with songs;

where radiance and moisture linger.

Radiance and moisture linger within them.

لا يُروّعكِ مدمعي وهُيامي

لا يُروّعكِ مدمعي وهُيامي

أنا سرّ الهوى وأنتِ الجمال

أنا سرّ الهوى وأنتِ الجمال

Let neither my tears nor my passion alarm you:

Let neither my tears nor my passionate love alarm you.

I am love’s secret, and you are beauty.

I am love's secret, and you are beauty.

تتراءى لناظري منكِ أروا

تتراءى لناظري منكِ أروا

حٌ رقاقٌ يلذّ منها الوصال

حٌ رقاقٌ يلذّ منها الوصال

From you, before my gaze, appear

Spirits from you appear before my eyes—

tender spirits, sweet to commune with.

Delicate, with whom communion is sweet.

فأناجي وما أملُّ المناجا

فأناجي وما أملُّ المناجا

ةَ وأصبو وللهوى استرسال

ةَ وأصبو وللهوى استرسال

I commune with them and never tire of communion;

So I commune, and never tire of communion;

I yearn, and love flows freely on.

And I yearn, and love flows unrestrained.

وبنفسي لحنٌ حبيبٌ يُسلّيـ

وبنفسي لحنٌ حبيبٌ يُسلّيـ

ـني وحلمٌ يهفو إليه البال

ـني وحلمٌ يهفو إليه البال

Within my soul, a beloved melody consoles me,

And within my soul is a cherished melody that consoles

and a dream for which the mind yearns.

Me, and a dream for which the mind yearns.

وتصاويرُ من رباعيَ شتّى

وتصاويرُ من رباعيَ شتّى

ما لَها الدَّهرَ في الوجودِ مثال

ما لَها الدَّهرَ في الوجودِ مثال

And visions of many different dwellings—

And varied images of my native abodes—

no equal for them has ever existed.

They have no equal in existence, through all time.

هيَ سلوايَ إنْ أظلّني الهمُّ

هيَ سلوايَ إنْ أظلّني الهمُّ

وسادَتْ بيَ الخُطوبُ الثِقال

وسادَتْ بيَ الخُطوبُ الثِقال

They are my solace whenever care overshadows me,

They are my solace when sorrow overshadows me

and my pillow amid heavy trials.

And heavy adversities hold sway over me.

نَهِلَ الحُبُ من مناعمها الزّهـ

نَهِلَ الحُبُ من مناعمها الزّهـ

ـر وضاءتْ بسحرها الأشكال

ـر وضاءتْ بسحرها الأشكال

The flowers drank their fill of love from those dwellings’ delights,

Love drank from their radiant delights;

and forms shone brightly through their magic.

And forms shone with their enchantment.

فهيَ في العينِ صورةٌ ليس تُمحى

فهيَ في العينِ صورةٌ ليس تُمحى

نامَ عنها البلى وأغفى الزَّوالُ

نامَ عنها البلى وأغفى الزَّوالُ

Thus, to the eye, they form an image that cannot be erased;

So in the eye they are an image that is not erased;

decay sleeps far from it, and passing-away slumbers.

Decay sleeps heedless of it, and dissolution slumbers.

وهي في القلبِ فرحةٌ تملأ القلـ

وهي في القلبِ فرحةٌ تملأ القلـ

ـبَ فتطوى بُحلمهِ الآجالُ

ـبَ فتطوى بُحلمهِ الآجالُ

And in the heart they are a joy that fills the heart,

And in the heart they are a joy that fills the heart,

and in its dream that joy folds lifetimes away.

So lifetimes are folded away by its dream.

يا رباعَ الخُلودِ عاشَ لكِ السّعـ

يا رباعَ الخُلودِ عاشَ لكِ السّعـ

ـدُ ولا زالَ خِدْنُكِ الإقبالُ

ـدُ ولا زالَ خِدْنُكِ الإقبالُ

O dwellings of eternity, may happiness live for you,

O abodes of eternity, may happiness live on for you,

and may good fortune never cease to be your companion.

And may prosperity ever remain your companion.

أنتِ مني الحُلْمُ الذي أشتهيهِ

أنتِ مني الحُلْمُ الذي أشتهيهِ

ومجنّي ومفزعي والمآلُ

ومجنّي ومفزعي والمآلُ

To me, you are the dream I long for—

You are, to me, the dream I desire,

my shield, my refuge, and my final home.

And my shield, my refuge, and the final destination.
