تَعَرَّضَconfronted ليto me عَمرٌوAmr وَعَمروٌand Amr ليto me خِزايَةٌa disgrace
تَعَرَّضَ لي عَمرٌو وَعَمروٌ لي خِزايَةٌ
تَعَرُّضَthe confrontation of ضَبعِthe hyena of القَفرِthe desert لِلأَسَدِwith the lion الوَردِtawny
تَعَرُّضَ ضَبعِ القَفرِ لِلأَسَدِ الوَردِ
Amr confronted me—and Amr is a disgrace to me—
Amr has antagonized me, and to Amr I'm an easy prey
as the desert hyena confronts the tawny lion.
Like a desert hare exposing itself to a furious lion
وَماand not هُوَhe ليto me نِدٌّan equal فَأَشتِمَso I should revile عِرضَهُhis honor
وَما هُوَ لي نِدٌّ فَأَشتِمَ عِرضَهُ
وَلاnor هُوَhe ليto me عَبدٌa slave فَأَبطِشَso I should strike بِالعَبدِat the slave
وَلا هُوَ لي عَبدٌ فَأَبطِشَ بِالعَبدِ
And he is no equal of mine, that I should revile his honor;
He's no equal of mine that I should abuse his honor
nor is he a slave of mine, that I should strike at the slave.
Nor is he my slave that I should tyrannize the slave
