And I said to ʿAwf: Accept counsel, and you will find the right way,

and two arbiters will judge between us.

Otherwise, there shall be no truce between us

through a peace accord when the two sides meet,

save with every keen blade whose edge the smith has polished,

and an arrow swift to kill, and a spearhead.

For Kulayb used to oppress his clan,

so the like of what you two see overtook him.

Then, when his cousin's spear made him drink poison,

he recalled how he had wronged his kin—at what a time!

And he said to Jassas: Help me with a drink,

or else tell whomever you meet where I am.

So he said: You have passed al-Aḥaṣṣ and its water,

and the valley-bed of Shubayth, which is not hidden.
