The cord linking me to Salāma has become

    frayed and cut apart.

How lovely you are, O Salāma—

    two thousand times, how lovely!

    Then two thousand, doubled,

and two thousand more, just so.

    Deep within my entrails,

and in my heart, it has stung

with a sting of passionate longing

that left it cut to pieces.

I crave from you, from you, from

    you, a dome-shaped place,

    بَينَ رُكنَينِ رَبَّذا

    bulging at the front,

    between two pillars, quivering;

    حَسَنَ القَدِّ مُحتَذا

    tucked in, with shoulders,

    finely proportioned, a model to follow;

    swelling, substantial to the touch,

    snub-nosed, curled like a hedgehog.

No eye has seen its like,

    in dreams or otherwise.

Towering like a camel's hump when

    shorn bare and neatly trimmed.

It fills her bedfellow's two palms,

when he enjoys sex between her thighs.

If you examined it, you would be amazed

    and behold a master,

    sweet in scent and feel

    and touch—a Magian priest.

So I spread it apart—in it, in

    it—with a cock like this.

Would that my cock, and would that your cunt,

    might both clasp one another:

    this gripping the other's cleft,

and that gripping the other's depths.

In your passion for her, you are like one

    closing his eyelids upon grit.

No speaker among the people has spoken

    words of this kind.

    صارَ شِعراً مُهَذَّذا

    I revealed my love and strung it together;

    it became finely trimmed verse,

the words of ʿAmmār Dhū Kināz—

how fine the pattern he has followed!

You two, console me with talk of her,

and give me a scarcely watered draught

    of dark-red, aged wine—

how lovely that is, how lovely!

Serve the company their morning wine,

in pitchers that serve as models.

    Drinking it leaves the ear

    purple-red, with a droop.
