جزى اللَه خيراً عن بلالٍ وصحبهِ

جزى اللَه خيراً عن بلالٍ وصحبهِ

عتيقاً وأخزى فاكِهاً وأباجَهلِ

عتيقاً وأخزى فاكِهاً وأباجَهلِ

May God, on behalf of Bilal and his companions, grant a good reward

May Allah reward Bilal and his companions,

To Atiq, and disgrace Fakih and Abu Jahl,

The free man and the slave enjoying fruits and dates,

عشيةَ همّا في بلالٍ بسوءَةٍ

عشيةَ همّا في بلالٍ بسوءَةٍ

ولم يحذروا ما يحذرُ المرءُ ذُو العقلِ

ولم يحذروا ما يحذرُ المرءُ ذُو العقلِ

On the evening when the two plotted a shameful deed against Bilal,

In the evening they worried about Bilal with evil intentions,

And did not fear what a man of reason fears,

And they did not fear what a reasonable man should fear,

بتوحيده ربَّ الأنامِ وقوله

بتوحيده ربَّ الأنامِ وقوله

شهدتُ بأن اللَه ربي على مَهلِ

شهدتُ بأن اللَه ربي على مَهلِ

For his affirming the oneness of the Lord of all creation and saying:

With his devotion to the Lord of creation and his words:

“I have borne witness that God is my Lord, without haste.

"I bear witness that Allah is my Lord" at leisure,

فإن تقتلوني تقتلوني ولم أكن

فإن تقتلوني تقتلوني ولم أكن

لأشرك بالرحمنِ من خيفَةِ القتلِ

لأشرك بالرحمنِ من خيفَةِ القتلِ

So if you kill me, you kill me; I would never

If you kill me, you kill me, while I have never

Associate partners with the Most Merciful for fear of being killed.

Associated anyone with the Merciful out of fear of death,

فيا ربَّ إبراهيم والعبد يُونُسٍ

فيا ربَّ إبراهيم والعبد يُونُسٍ

ومُوسى وعيسى نجني ثم لا تُملي

ومُوسى وعيسى نجني ثم لا تُملي

So, O Lord of Abraham and the servant Jonah,

O Lord of Abraham, Jonah the servant

And Moses and Jesus, save me; then grant no respite

And Moses and Jesus, deliver me but do not make me despair

لمن ظل يهوى الغيَّ من آل غالبٍ

لمن ظل يهوى الغيَّ من آل غالبٍ

على غيرِ برٍّ كانَ منهُ ولا عَدل

على غيرِ برٍّ كانَ منهُ ولا عَدل

To whoever among Ghalib's clan persists in loving error,

Of those who wrongfully loved the misguided people of Ghalib

With no righteousness or justice shown by him.”

With neither kindness nor justice from them
