I swore not to weep for anyone who dies

    After God's Messenger, the best of creation;

After the one who was our guide

Out of the confusion that prevailed, and a full moon in the darkness.

O bearer of tidings from his Lord

Among us, and O you who kept vigil through the longest night,

And guide of people to their right course,

And you who prescribed for them the lawful and the forbidden:

You are the one who rescued us after

We were standing at a cliff's plunging edge.

Then God took him to Himself when he had completed

His days, at the coming of death.

And what people ever attained happiness

That lasted for them, among the descendants of Ham and Shem?
