ياO آبِليmy camels ماwhat ذامُهُits fault فَتَأبَيَهand so you refuse it
ماءٌwater رَواءٌthirst-quenching وَنَصِيٌّand naṣī grass حَولَيَهaround it
O my camels, what fault has it that you should refuse it?
Oh apple tree why do you refuse it
Thirst-quenching water, and naṣī grass around it.
Water to quench your thirst is all around you
هَذَّاcrop swiftly بِاَفواهِكِwith your mouths حَتَّىuntil تَأبَيَهyou refuse it
حَتَّىuntil تَرُوحِيyou head back اُصُلاًin the late afternoon تُبارِيَهyou race one another
Crop it swiftly with your mouths until you want no more of it,
Let me lead it to your mouth until you accept it
until you head back in the late afternoon, racing one another,
Until you become strong, competing with it
تَبارِىَthe racing of العانَةِthe wild-ass herd فَوقَover الزازِيَهthe rugged high ground
like a herd of wild asses racing over the rugged high ground.
Rising above barrenness on top of the hill
