Wine—when a hand makes it speak by mixing it,

the eyes' tongues almost fall mute before it.

As though it were a bashful person in its drinker's cup,

whom fear's yellow pallor suddenly overtook at the mixing.

Or like a beloved's cheek, when strewn

by the hand of coquetry with pearls of sweat.

As though what turns white upon it, amid its rosy hue,

were stars scattered in the redness of twilight.
