هَذاthis كِتابيmy letter إِلَيْكُمْto you فِيهِin it مَعْذِرَتيmy apology
يُنْبِيكُمُit tells you اليَوْمَtoday عَنْof شَوْقيmy longing وَعَنْand of سَقَمِيmy illness
This is my letter to you; in it is my apology.
This is my letter to you, in it is my apology
It tells you today of my longing and my illness.
It informs you today of my longing and my illness
أَجْلَلْتُI held in reverence ذِكْرَكُمُthe mention of you عَنْabove أَنْthat يُدَنِّسَهُsully it
لَوْنُthe color المِدَادِthe ink فَقَدْso indeed حَبَّرْتُهُI inscribed it بِدَمِيwith my blood
I held the mention of you too exalted to be sullied
I have made your mention too great to be desecrated
By the color of ink, so I have written it in my blood.
By the color of ink, for I have dyed it with my blood
وَلَوْand if قَدَرْتُI had power عَلَىover جَفْنيmy eyelid لأَجْعَلَهُto make it
طِرْسِيmy parchment وَأبْرِيand I sharpen عِظامِيmy bones مَوْضِعَin place of القَلَمِthe pen
And if I could make my eyelid
And if I was able over my eyelids, I would make it
My parchment, and sharpen my bones in place of the pen,
My scroll, and I would make the bones in my hands the place of the pen
لَكانَwould be ذَاكَthat قَلِيلاًlittle فيin مَحَبَّتِكُمْlove for you
وَمَاand not وَجَدْتُI felt لَهُbecause of it واللَهِby God مِنْany أَلَمِpain
That would be little in my love for you,
That would have been too little in my love for you
And, by God, I would feel no pain from it.
And by Allah I have not felt any pain from it
