يا منْ سَقامُ جفونهِ
لسقامِfor the sickness of عاشقهِhis lover طبيبُa healer
لسقامِ عاشقهِ طبيبُ
O you whose eyelids’ languor
O you whose eyelids' illness
is a healer for your lover’s sickness.
Is cured by love-sick gazing,
حُزْتَyou have won المودَّةaffection فاستَوىso became equal
حُزْتَ المودَّة فاستَوى
عِنديto me حضورُكyour presence والمَغيبُand absence
عِندي حضورُك والمَغيبُ
You have won my affection; now alike
You've won my heart, so it's the same -
to me are your presence and absence.
Whether you're here or far away.
كُنْbe كيفَhowever شِئتَyou wish منin respect of البِعاdistance (first fragment)
كُنْ كيفَ شِئتَ من البِعا
دِdistance (final fragment) فأَنتَfor you منto قلبيmy heart قَريبُclose
دِ فأَنتَ من قلبي قَريبُ
Be as far away as you wish,
However far you choose to roam,
for you are close to my heart.
You're still so close within my heart.
