ياO مُمْرِضَyou who sicken الجِسْمِthe body مِنِّيof mine عِنْدَduring صِحَّتِهِits health
هَبْgrant لِيto me عَلىfor طُولِthe length of ماthe time that أَفْنىI waste away عَلَيْكَover you بَقَاcontinued life
O you who make my body sick when it is healthy,
O you who cure the body when it's healthy
Grant me life for all the time I waste away over you.
Grant me, for all the life I spent on you, survival
وَمَنْand you who تَعَشَّقَpassionately loved جِسْمِيmy body سُقْمَthe languor of ناظِرِهِhis eye
لَمَّاwhen رَآهُit saw it لِسُقْمِيwith my sickness فِيهِin it قَدْalready عَشِقاfell in love
And you whose eye's languor my body adored,
And whoever fell in love with my body, love-sick with its sight
When it saw that languor had fallen in love with my body's sickness.
For when he saw in it my illness, he fell in love
أَغْرَيْتَyou enticed me بِالسُّقْمِinto sickness حَتَّىuntil إِذْwhen غُرِيتُI became enamored بِهِof it
كأَنَّas though سُقْمِيَmy sickness مِنْfrom جَفْنَيْكَyour two eyelids قَدْalready خُلِقاwas created
You made me love sickness until, once I grew enamored of it,
You tempted me with illness until, tempted by it
It was as though my sickness had been created from your eyelids.
As though my illness was created from your eyelids
