دُ أَمَا لَهُ يَوْماً دُنُوُّ
O my master, how long this separation?
O my master, how long will this separation be?
Will it not one day give way to nearness?
Will it not have a day of nearness?

مِ فَما لَهُ مِنْهُ سُلُوُّ
You enticed my heart into passion,
You have seduced my heart with love,
so it finds no release from it.
Yet it has no solace from it.
أَهْبَطْتَyou lowered قَلْبِيmy heart بَعْدَafter ماthat

You brought my heart low, after
You have brought down my heart after
loftiness had raised its ranks.
It had reached the highest levels.

So my friend saw its disgrace,
So my friend saw its disgrace,
and the enemy saw his own delight.
And my enemy saw its joy.
