فَتَنَتْنا سَوالِفٌ وَخُدودُ

فَتَنَتْنا سَوالِفٌ وَخُدودُ

وعيونٌ فَواتِرٌ وقُدودُ

وعيونٌ فَواتِرٌ وقُدودُ

Necks and cheeks have bewitched us,

We chatted, cheeks blushing red

And languid eyes and figures,

Eyes glowing, faces bright

ووُجوهٌ مثلُ التَّواصُلِ بيضٌ

ووُجوهٌ مثلُ التَّواصُلِ بيضٌ

وشُعورٌ مثلُ التَّقاطُعِ سُودُ

وشُعورٌ مثلُ التَّقاطُعِ سُودُ

And faces white as union,

Pale as intimate connection

And tresses black as separation.

Dark as harsh disconnect

ملكتْنا بِضَعْفِهِنَّ ظِباءٌ

ملكتْنا بِضَعْفِهِنَّ ظِباءٌ

فَخَضَعْنا لها ونحنُ أُسُودُ

فَخَضَعْنا لها ونحنُ أُسُودُ

Gazelles have mastered us through their weakness,

Their weakness made us savage beasts

So we submitted to them, though we are lions.

We bowed, though we were lions
