Look at the magic in his eyes and their deep blackness.
Behold the magic in his eyes, and the languor,
As though his eyelids were ailing from coquetry.
As if his eyelids were sick with longing.
لَهُhe has مِنَof الدُّرِّthe pearls عِقْدٌa necklace تَحْتَbeneath شارِبِهِhis moustache

وَفَوْقَ أَصْداغِهِ لامانِ مِن سَبَجِ
He has a necklace of pearls beneath his moustache.
Around his neck he wears a necklace of pearls
And above his temples, two lām letters made of jet.
Above his temples dangles a shiny pendant.
تَظُنُّyou think منfrom خَجَلٍbashfulness تَوْريدَthe rosy flush وَجْنَتِهِhis cheek
تَظُنُّ من خَجَلٍ تَوْريدَ وَجْنَتِهِ

وَاللَهِ ما ذاكَ إِلا مِنْ دَمِ المُهَجِ
You think his cheek’s rosy flush comes from bashfulness.
You’d think the blush upon his cheek was his skin showing through,
And by God, that comes from nothing but the blood of hearts.
But no, it’s just the blood of slain hearts.
