أَقِلاLessen, you two عِتابيreproaching me قدindeed مللْتُI have grown weary منَof العتبِreproach
أَقِلا عِتابي قد مللْتُ منَ العتبِ
يطيعُكُماobeys you both لفظيmy speech ويعصيكُماand disobeys you both قلبيmy heart
يطيعُكُما لفظي ويعصيكُما قلبي
Lessen your reproach of me, you two; I have grown weary of reproach.
Lessen my reproach, for I have wearied of blame
My speech obeys you both, but my heart disobeys you both.
My words obey you, yet my heart disobeys
لقدindeed أَخْصَبَتْhave flourished فيon الخدِّthe cheek مِنِّيof mine مدامعٌtears
لقد أَخْصَبَتْ في الخدِّ مِنِّي مدامعٌ
وقلبيَand my heart منْbecause of صبريmy patience عَلَىat غايةِthe utmost degree الجَدْبِbarrenness
وقلبيَ منْ صبري عَلَى غايةِ الجَدْبِ
Indeed, tears of mine have flourished on my cheek,
Tears have indeed flowed copiously down my cheek
Yet my heart, because of my patience, is utterly barren.
While my heart is extremely arid from my endurance
