قَدْindeed آنَthe time has come لِلْوَصْلِfor union نَحْوَtoward الهَجْرِseparation يَنْتَهِضُrises up
كذاthus وعَيْشِكَand by your life كلُّall الأَمْرِthe affair ينْتَقِضُcomes undone
It is time for union to rise and head toward estrangement.
The time has come for union to rise toward separation.
So it is—by your glory—the whole affair comes undone.
Thus, by your life, every affair comes undone.
مَادامَdoes not endure شَيءٌanything مِنof الدُّنْياthis world عَلَىfor أَحَدٍanyone
خَيْرٌgood وشَرٌّand ill كذاthus الأَيامُthe days تَنْقَرِضُpass away
No condition of this world lasts for anyone—
Nothing in this world endures for anyone,
good or evil; thus the days pass away.
Good and ill alike; thus the days pass away.
صَبْراًpatience! عَليكَwith you ولاand no صَبْرٌpatience يُطاوِعُنيobeys me
وكيفَand how يَصْبِرُis patient مَنone who فيin قَلبِهِhis heart مَرَضُsickness
Patience with you—yet no patience will obey me;
Patience with you! Yet no patience will obey me.
and how can one whose heart holds sickness be patient?
And how can one with sickness in his heart be patient?
