أَماis there not لِيfor me نَديمٌa drinking companion فائقٌrecovered مِنْfrom خُمارِهِhis hangover
Is there no obliging companion to favor me with his early visit?
A morning has singled me out with its invention,
Have I no drinking companion recovered from his hangover?
As if I have a sublime drinking companion.

يَشُقُّrends جَلابيبَrobes الدُّجىthe darkness عَنْaway from نهارِهِits daylight
The light of dawn has indeed appeared, bearing a banner,
The light of dawn has certainly appeared, bearing a banner,
rending the robes of darkness away from its daylight.
Parting the veils of darkness from its daytime.
وَصَفَّرَتِand whistled الأَطْيارُthe birds بَيْنَamid رِياضِهاtheir gardens

And the birds have whistled amid their gardens,
The birds have chirped yellow in their meadows,
and in them the turtledove answered the voice of its nightingale.
And the moon has accompanied them with its melodious voice.

Forbidden to whoever does not rise from his sleep
It is forbidden for one who has not risen from his sleep
and come to me, greeting me with a cup of his wine.
To greet me with a cup of wine.
