تَرَشَّفْتُI sipped مِنْfrom شَفَتَيْهِhis two lips العُقَارَاthe wine
وَقَبَّلْتُand I kissed مِنْfrom خَدِّهِhis cheek الجُلَّنارَاthe pomegranate blossom
I sipped wine from his lips,
I sipped the nectar of his lips,
And kissed the pomegranate blossom on his cheek.
And kissed his rosy cheeks,
وَشَاهَدْتُand I beheld مِنْهُfrom him كَثِيباًa sand dune مَهِيلاًloose-sanded
وَغُصْناًand a branch رَطِيباًtender وَبَدْراًand a full moon أَنارَاshone
And in him I beheld a dune of loose sand,
I saw in him a towering dune,
And a tender branch, and a full moon that shone.
A scented branch, a shining moon.
وَأَبْصَرْتُand I saw مِنْfrom وَجْهِهhis face فيin الظَّلامِthe darkness
بِكُلِّin every مَكانٍplace بِلَيْلٍat night نَهَارَاdaylight
And from his face, in the darkness, I saw
I saw his face illuminate
Daylight everywhere at night.
The darkest night, and make it bright.
