    I make light of what I suffer, though it is no light thing,

    when eyes watch me because of my love for you.

    Even if the talebearers sever what was between us,

    then your share of my heart is kept safe for you.

    And if I seek to conceal my love, it is spoken of by

    sudden bursts of tears, whose clouds are eyelids.

    وَمَا عَزَّ فِيهِ الخَطْبُ لَيْسَ يَهُونُ

    I grow lowly when the one whose slave I am is exalted;

    yet a plight in which adversity grows grave is no light thing.
