أَجْرىhe made flow دُمُوعاًtears كَمِثْلِlike الدُّرِّpearls أَهْمَلَهاhe let them fall
مِنْfrom ناظِرَيْهِhis two eyes عَلَىupon ياقُوتِthe ruby of وَجْنَتِهِhis cheek
He shed tears like pearls, letting them fall
He shed tears like pearls he ignored
from his two eyes upon the ruby of his cheek.
From his two eyes upon his ruby and garden.
فَحَدَّرَتْthen poured down مُقْلَتاthe two orbs of عَيْنيmy eyes العقِيقَagate عَلَىupon
خَدٍّa cheek حَكىresembled ذَهباًgold مِنْهُbecause of him بِصُفْرَتِهِin its yellow hue
Then the two orbs of my eyes poured agate down upon
So my carnelian eyes trickled down
a cheek that, because of him, resembled gold in its yellow hue.
Upon a cheek telling of gold in its paleness.
دَمْعانِtwo tear-streams لَوْنانِtwo colors فيin لَونيْنِtwo colors قَدْindeed جَرَياboth flowed
كلٌّeach أَتىbrought forth عَجَباًa marvel مِنهُof its own بِجِرْيَتِهِthrough its flowing
Two streams of tears, two colors, have flowed over two colors;
Two tears of two colors flowed down in two complexions,
each brought forth a marvel of its own through its flowing.
Each coming wondrously in its own flow.
