A smiling season and a garden fresh,

And boughs, set swaying, rock to and fro.

Blossom-stars surround them, and you see them

Rising as though they were auspicious stars.

From them, eyes appear at dawn before the eyes,

And cheeks among them meet the cheeks.

They sway proudly with the winds,

With boughs as though they were slender figures.

So theirs is union whenever they bend,

And theirs is rejection whenever they stand straight.

Give me a drink, boy, for life is fresh,

And misfortune’s eyes slumber, oblivious to us.

Do not forsake present joy; make haste,

For perhaps it will return—or not return.
