لَوْif كانَwere يَعْلَمُto know عُذَّاليmy reproachers بِماof what صَنَعُواthey had done
لَأَقْصَرُواthey would desist عَنْfrom مَلاميreproaching me فيكَconcerning you وَارْتَدَعُواand refrain
If my reproachers knew what they had done,
They would stop reproaching me over you and desist.
زَادُوكَthey raised you عِنْدِيَin my estimation إِذْwhen عَابُوكَthey disparaged you مَنْزِلَةًin rank
كَأَنَّهُمْas though they رَفَعُواraised مِنْكَof you الَّذيthat which وَضَعُواthey lowered
They raised your standing with me when they found fault with you,
As though they raised the very thing in you they had brought low.
فَمَنْso whoever يَكُنْmay be فيهِin him عَنْtoward عُذَّالِهِhis reproachers صَمَمٌdeafness
فَإِنَّنيbut indeed I فيكَconcerning you لِلْعُذَّالِto the reproachers مُسْتَمِعُa listener
Others may turn a deaf ear to their reproachers,
But I listen to reproachers when they speak of you,
حُبّاًout of love لِذِكْرِكَfor the mention of you أَنْthat يَجْريit may flow عَلَىover أُذُنيmy ear
فَلْيُقْصِرواso let them desist عَنْfrom مَلامِيreproaching me فِيكَconcerning you وَليَدَعُواand let them leave off
For love of your name as it flows over my ear.
So let them cease reproaching me over you, and leave off.
