بِاللَهِby God رَبِّكُماLord of you both عُوجَاturn aside, you two عَلَىto سَكَنِيmy beloved
وَعَاتِباهُand reproach him, you two لَعَلَّperhaps العَتْبَreproach يَعْطِفُهُwill soften him
By God, Lord of you both, turn aside to my beloved,
And reproach him; perhaps reproach will soften him.
وَعَرِّضاand allude, you two بيto me وَقولاand say, you two فيin كلامِكُماyour conversation, you two
مَاwhat بالُis the matter with عَبْدِكَyour servant بِالهِجْرانِthrough estrangement تُتْلِفُهُyou destroy him
And allude to me, and say as you converse:
'Why do you destroy your servant by forsaking him?'
فَإِنْthen if تَبَسَّمَhe smiles قُولاsay, you two عَنْby way of مُلاطَفَةٍgentle coaxing
مَاwhat ضَرَّharm would it do لَوْif بِوِصالٍwith union مِنْكَfrom you تُسْعِفُهُyou would aid him
Then, if he smiles, say with gentle coaxing:
'What harm would it do to grant him union with you?'
وإِنْand if بَداappears لَكُماto you both مِنْfrom سَيِّديmy master غَضَبٌanger
فَغَالِطاهُthen mislead him, you two وَقولاand say, you two لَيسَnot نَعْرِفُهُwe know him
And if my master shows you any anger,
Then mislead him and say, 'We do not know him.'
