You loosed upon me a sickness for

you, and slept, heedless of my long night.

And you begrudged my complaining to

you—and what excuse has a miser?

So it is as though sickness itself were miserly

with the sickness of my sickness, from emaciation.

And the physician of your estrangement does not grant

the sick man an end to your estrangement.

So if you wish to visit me in my sickness,

then ask after the living yet slain.

And look at a soul that has flowed

within an upright yet impossible form.

    Passion's rule in seizing it

is the rule of the mighty over the abased.
