دَواءُ قلبي في الهوى دائي

أَعْيا عِلاجاتِ الأَطباءِ

أَعْيا عِلاجاتِ الأَطباءِ

My heart’s cure in love is my malady;

it has defied the physicians’ treatments.

حَوَيتُ أَسْقامَ الوَرى مُفْرداً

حَوَيتُ أَسْقامَ الوَرى مُفْرداً

وحازها النَّاسُ بأَسماءِ

وحازها النَّاسُ بأَسماءِ

I alone have gathered mankind’s ailments,

and people possess them under various names.

لَوْ شِئْتُ أَنْ أَمشي لِفَرْطِ الضَّنى

لَوْ شِئْتُ أَنْ أَمشي لِفَرْطِ الضَّنى

مشيتُ مِن سُقْمي عَلَى الماءِ

مشيتُ مِن سُقْمي عَلَى الماءِ

If I wished to walk, so extreme is my wasting,

I would walk upon water because of my sickness.
