And that is not out of pity for you, but rather
because I love to weep over you, out of love for my own ruin.
أَيَاO دِمْنَةَruins of الْلذَّاتِpleasures لازَالَmay it never cease دائِماًforever

O ruins of delights, may there forever remain
upon you the radiant light of your splendor.
أَرىI see الشَّوْقَlonging يُلْجِينيdrives me إِلَيْكِto you كَماjust as الْتَجاsought refuge

I see longing driving me to you, just as refuge was sought
by your hills in refreshment from the water of life.
مَلَكْتِyou possessed قِيادَthe reins of الحُسْنِbeauty حَتَّىuntil كأَنَّماas though

You held the reins of beauty, until it was as though
every enamored thing swooped to meet you.

I keep our bond through estrangement from you, steeling myself,
and that is nothing but obedience to your desire.
أُحِبُّI would love بِأَنْto أَحْياI live بِوَصْلِكِthrough union with you ساعَةًan hour

I would love to live an hour in union with you,
even if within it lay death through your coldness.

easy for me in attaining your favor.

And by the truth of my torment, I am indeed enamored of you,
revealing what I conceal whenever I see you.

I wonder if you see what ails me on your account, for I
see you with an eye that sees no one but you.

And that is not from love of my own survival, but rather
I would love to live on for as long as you do.
