دُرٌّ عَلى أَرْضٍ مِنَ الفَيْرُوزَجِ
And indeed I remembered you, while the stars seemed
I remembered you as the stars appeared
Like pearls upon a ground of turquoise.
Like pearls on a ground of turquoise

They gleamed through gaps in the clouds, as though they were
Gleaming through the clouds as if they were
Sparks flying from the dry wood of the arfaj shrub.
Sparks flying from the striking of the flint

بِالشعر يَسْتَجْدي اللِّئامَ وَيَرْتَجِي
And the horizon was darker than the thoughts of one earning a living
And the horizon was darker than the thoughts of a poet
Through poetry, begging the ignoble and hoping.
Who begs the ignoble with verse and implores
