عَلِيلُailing القَلْبِthe heart وَالبَدَنِand the body
بَعِيدُfar from الدَّارِhome وَالسَّكَنِand dwelling
Ailing in heart and body,
Sick at heart and body
Far from home and dwelling,
Far from home and abode
بَكىhe wept وَشَكاand lamented تَشَتُّتَهُhis separation
عَنِfrom الأَحْبابِloved ones وَالوَطَنِand the homeland
He wept and lamented his separation
He wept and complained of his exile
From loved ones and homeland.
From loved ones and native land
وَمَنْand whoever أَعْطىhands over أَزِمَّتَهُhis reins
بِلاwithout مَنْعٍresistance يَدthe hand الزَّمَنِof time
And whoever hands over his reins
Whoever yields to destiny
To the hand of time, without resistance,
Without resistance, time's hand
فَذَاكَthen that one يَبِيعُsells لَذَّتَهُhis enjoyment
مِنَof الدُّنْياthis world بِلاwithout ثَمَنِa price
Then sells his enjoyment
Sells pleasure of life for naught
Of this world for nothing.
In this world, no worthy stand
