أَياO هذِهِyou (feminine) إِنَّindeed السَّحابَthe clouds التيthat تَسْريdrift
بَكَتْwept لِبُكائيfor my weeping رَحْمَةًout of pity وَهْيَwhile they لاَnot تَدْريknow
O you, indeed the clouds that drift
O clouds that gently pass me by
Wept in pity for my weeping, though they are unaware.
You weep in pity though you know not why
فَلَوْso if لَمْnot تَجِدْfeel وَجْديmy anguish إِذَنْthen ماnot تَشابَهَتْresembled
برُوحيwith my soul التيthat تَفْنىperishes ودَمْعيand my tears الَّذيthat يَجْريflow
So had they not felt my anguish, then they would not have resembled
If you shared not my inner pain
My soul that perishes and my tears that flow.
Why then this unity in the tears we cry?
وَلَوْand if قَبِلَaccepted المَحْبوبُthe beloved فيin الحُبِّlove فِدْيَةًa ransom
وَهَبْتُI gave لهto him رُوحيmy soul وقاسَمْتُهُand I shared with him عُمْريmy lifetime
And if the beloved accepted a ransom in love,
If love's ransom were a loyal heart
I would give him my soul and share my lifetime with him.
I'd give my soul to him, my life impart
